Don't Worry, You'll Do It

"Don't Worry, You'll Do It"

One year I wanted to run the New York Marathon, but three days before I had severe lower back pain. The night before the Marathon, it had increased to the point that I could barely walk across the room. When Sri Chinmoy saw me he said, "What has happened to you?" I said that I was very sad because I had developed this back pain and it had become worse and worse and that I was supposed to be out on the starting line early the next morning for the Marathon. Guru just smiled and said, "Don't worry, you'll do it. Go out and start." So I got up the next day and went on the bus like everybody else. My back was definitely better. By the time I reached the starting line, my back was hurting so little that I was not even thinking about it, but I was all jittery and nervous anyway. While I was running, my back never bothered me in the slightest. The second I walked in the door to my apartment, the telephone rang—it was Guru. He said, "Oi, Divine, how is your back?" I thanked Guru and said that the pain had completely disappeared—that he had taken it away and that I had had a very normal, happy run. Guru said, "Fine, fine."

Distinct Voice

Distinct Voice

After visiting my Guru Sri Chinmoy in New York, I got extremely sick for two days. I could not keep down any food or liquid, but the worst part was the stabbing pain, which would not let me sleep. On the second day I heard a distinct voice which said, “You do not have to suffer any more.” It was sweet, consoling, and at the same time a direct voice. I sat up and began repeating “Guru, Guru, Guru.” I placed my hand on the area that was hurting and a pale green light blossomed there. I saw delicate, Heavenly green flowers blossoming where the pain was, and at the same time I was flooded with self-giving humility. Then the same voice said, “Take some prasad.” My prasad was lying on the table, but it was citrus fruit, which I thought would be horrible for my condition, so I didn’t take it at first. The second time I heard the distinct voice repeat its message, I took a little piece of orange and ate it. All the pain disappeared instantly. Then I felt wave after wave of Guru’s blessings.

Disappeared

Disappeared

Around November of last year, I began to feel very weak and tired. On a trip to New York, I spoke with a medical doctor, who diagnosed that I had a mild case of hepatitis. I went to London for two months, and my symptoms continued to get worse. On my return I visited an ayurvedic doctor. She also concluded that I had hepatitis. In April I went to a third doctor who used homeopathy and muscle testing, and he also firmly concluded that I had hepatitis. I sent a message to Sri Chinmoy about my condition, and he said that I should take medicine for it. I followed his instructions and continued taking some ayurvedic herbs. Shortly thereafter I began to feel much stronger and healthier. When I returned home, I had my blood tested, and to my great excitement, the test showed that I did not have hepatitis. Three different doctors diagnosed me with hepatitis, and I believe I did have it, but after telling Guru, it magically disappeared.

Deep Gratitude

Deep Gratitude

During the Christmas trip to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in December 1998, Sri Chinmoy and the disciples stayed at the Pan-Pacific Hotel, where I work—which was how I met Sri Chinmoy. One of our staff members in the Housekeeping Department, Ms. Thavamani, had been diagnosed with heart problems by a medical specialist, and had been told she should go for open-heart bypass surgery in about two weeks' time. She was quite worried, and at that time she came to know of Guru's presence in the hotel. She realised Guru's holiness and felt that receiving the blessings from a genuine spiritual Master could revive her faith. She tried to find an opportunity to receive Guru's blessings, and eventually approached one of the disciples to help arrange for her to meet Guru. A day later, the disciple managed to fulfil Ms. Thavamani's request. On that day, when she came to see Guru, he was using one of his exercise machines. As she approached Guru, she was in a state of complete helplessness. She fell down on her knees and tears were running down her cheeks. Guru looked at her most compassionately. He closed his eyes and held his hand out above her head, and blessed her for about three minutes. About two weeks later, we heard that her bypass surgery had been cancelled, and that she only had to go for some minor procedure. Even our hotel doctor, who knew of her medical problems, was surprised to hear of her cure. Now Ms. Thavamani is perfectly energetic. She always talks about Guru's greatness and how he is in her heart, and offers her deep gratitude to Guru and the disciples for helping her.

Compassion-Healing Power

Compassion-Healing Power

Shardul was a new disciple in the Adelaide Sri Chinmoy Centre during the 1980s. Before he came to the path, he had been involved in a series of serious accidents and had undergone various operations to keep him alive. One day a disciple let me know that he had gone into the hospital to have an operation. I thought it best to visit him and discover what his treatment was, so as to let Guru know. A metal rod, inserted during a previous operation, had been removed from his arm and the wound would not stop bleeding. Shardul is quite a joker, and during my visit, despite his condition, continued joking and laughing with me. At one point he was laughing so much that he fell out of bed onto the floor. I was shocked and begged him please to be careful or he would kill himself. He only laughed and mentioned his ‘use by' date was not yet up. When I arrived home, I phoned New York to let Guru know about his condition and the fact that the bleeding would not stop. That was about half an hour after I had seen him in the hospital. The next day I phoned to check his progress. His bleeding stopped exactly thirty minutes after my visit. Guru's compassion-healing power had travelled swiftly over the ocean to save him.

Column Of Light

Column Of Light

In 1972 I was working as an international teller at a bank in Manhattan. One day I had begun to feel very ill and left work early. I don't know how I made it home on the subway. By the time I climbed up the hill and up my street, I was reeling with a raging fever, dizzy and hardly able to walk. When I got home, I called Sri Chinmoy's house and all I could say was, "I'm very sick." A little while later when I was passed out in bed, my door opened downstairs and Savyasachi said, "Tanima, Guru is here and he is coming up." I was extremely weak but I pulled myself up to a sitting position. Guru climbed up the stairs, came over to me and placed both his hands on my head. Immediately I felt this tremendously powerful column of light coming from his hand down through the centre of my body. His blessings lasted quite long and I was trying to be receptive. When he removed his hands he said, "Now sleep, and tomorrow you will feel better." And I did. I woke up feeling not just better but completely well, as if I had never been sick at all. At the meditation the next night Guru said the illness had been so severe that I would have been very sick for at least two weeks, but because I had been receptive, he was able to completely cure me.

The Healing Heart

Sri Chinmoy was visiting Melbourne in 1984 to give a Peace Concert, and I had the honour of driving him around. We were doing some shopping and going to a restaurant. Upon our return to the car, I accidentally got my arm caught in the door as it was being closed. A loud "crack" was heard as the metal frame bore down against my forearm. I immediately said to myself, "My God, it's broken!"
Everyone in the car except Guru expressed concern. Guru, on the other hand, turned quickly with an intense and penetrating look on his face and said nothing until I sat down in the driver's seat. He was very sweet and quietly asked, "Is it all right?"
I replied, "It's fine, Guru," and indeed it was. Everyone was astonished.
All this happened within the space of about 10 seconds and then we drove away to another shopping appointment, as I basked in the experience of a heart filled with gratitude.
